The Highland Brigade made up of the 78th Highlanders rushed up from Halifax, the Black Watch from Montreal and the new Cameron Highlanders from Ottawa

Some locals acting as Scouts for the Cavalry begin to engage in a firefight with the Fenians

Fenians deploying in line, remembering their training from their time in the Union army. Meanwhile the Fenians are attempting to force the Cavalry into a bottleneck to be cut down by volleys.

French Foreign Legion or Japanese

 These fellows came with the Fort Sahara set my Navy veteran friend bought for me.

These fellows will also find themselves fighting Mother Russia as Japanese infantry. Since I lived in Japan, I've always wanted to fight that conflict on the table. Should be an interesting match

Bedouin warriors

 

While I was in Japan, I had bought the Airfix north African fort but a friend of mine asked if I would trade it with him for some other kits.

He then replaced the kit with a new one. I have been working on getting my Arabs ready for the Sudan, the Northwest frontier, so I hope to get a few games going in 2022.

A fort on the frontier

 Back in the summer, one of my friends bought me the Airfix Foreign legion fort with Foreign Legion and Bedouin figures.

I will be getting on this in 2022.

I first got this set in Japan of all places. 

The French Foreign Legion figures I will paint as is but they may find themselves as other nationalities in 19th century battlefields

Let there be light

 

This is a papercraft kit from a book I had originally gotten 25 years ago and lost then ordered again.

It's taken me awhile to get back into my hobby work due to work, and my struggle with mental health. I have decided that working on these things will help me recover, as well as finishing what I have.

 During the Italian Wars of Unification, the Papal states raised an armed force to defend itself from the fear of radicalism, or probably loss of revenue from lands lost.

Now, as a part of Canadian military history, the unit raised was recruited from Catholics in Lower Canada. 

As such the unit has a very special place in the history of Quebec.

As the uniform is similar to what American civil war figures look like, I have been able to paint up a small section including an officer 

The uniform is basically grey with red highlights. The headgear is a kipi.

So yet another unit to add to the table.
