Courthouse Hill, Hants county Nova Scotia

Courthouse Hill is named after the Courthouse built in 1866 for East Hants. Now it must have been interesting to have gone out here in the mid 19th century as there would not have been paved roads. No doubt the judge and lawyers must have come from other areas. What's amazing is that they put the Courthouse on a hill which on a clear day you could see and still do 5 counties.

As I was saying to my coworker who I brought out.  The time to travel out would have been interesting by horse and buggy. They must have been landed up Maitland or one of the ports up on the Noel shore then brought up.

And imagine the type of cases they would have had
Land disputes, theft, public drunkeness, domestic abuse, assaults, and at a time when there was no radio or public TV. I can imagine the public gallery full of friends, relatives of accused mixed in with homemakers sitting down listening to what would be the latest gossip while knitting, court day must have been the biggest entertainment spectacle besides church
The church building burnt in the 1950s and the park was established via the efforts of my departed friend Dr. Ross MacInnis.
Oh what stores and cases must have been heard there.
